He is the President of Hospital da Beneficência Portuguesa, a hospital which serves members of Sao Paulo’s population that are below the poverty line, and he is also a prolific writer, and has published multiple articles and editorials in a number of notable national magazines and newspapers. He ran for governor unsuccessfully in the mid-80s, but has remained actively involved in politics with a focus on improving health care and job opportunities. It was believed that his family owned 25% of Votorantim Group, but after a recent appraisal, it was revealed that they actually own almost all of the company.
