The Bridas Corporation attempted to begin construction on a Trans-Afghanistan pipeline in the late 90s, but due to the 2001 U.S. Invasion of Afghanistan, the entire endeavor fell through. In 2010, China National Overseas Oil Co., bought a 50% stake in Bridas Corporation. Bridas also owns 20% of PanAmerican Energy. PanAmerican also owns ExxonMobile in Argentina. Currently, Alejandro, the Bridas Chairman, lives in Argentina, while his brother, Carlos, the CEO, resides in Rome.
