After Silvio Berlusconi resigned Monti was invited by President Giorgio Napolitano to start a new technocratic government. He became Prime Minister in November 2011 after being appointed a Senator for Life by Napolitano. Monti also served as Minister of Economy and Finances. He served as the President of Civic Choice in 2013. He participates in several think tanks and is a member of the Praesidium of Friends of Europe. He is a leading member of the Bilderberg Group and has been an advisor for The Coca-Cola Company and Goldman Sachs. Mario married Elsa Antoniollo in 1970 and the couple has two children together.
