Jefferson Airplane was formed in 1965 and continued until 1972. While still active with Jefferson Airplane, Kanter formed the side project Paul Kanter and the Jefferson Starship in 1970. Jefferson Starship has released 10 studio albums. Their 1975 album Red Octopus was certified 2x Platinum and hit #1 in the United States. Jefferson Airplane’s biggest hits include “Somebody to Love” and “White Rabbit”. Jefferson Airplane was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. Paul Kanter passed away on January 28, 2016 at 74 years old from complications from a heart attack. Katner had three children, including one with Grace Slick, a daughter named China.
