He has remained a managing partner of Bain Capital since then. In 2003, he joined a consortium known as the Boston Basketball Partners LLC. The group of businessman purchased the Boston Celtics for $360 million. In 2009, he ran as a candidate in a special election in Massachusetts. He was trying to take over the U.S. Senate position left vacant by Ted Kennedy. He came in fourth of four candidates in the primary election.
